Nick Jr. "The Smart Place To Play" 2015 research
In the process of developing animated series and other intellectual property it is vital to do some basic research to see how it might fit in to not only the marketplace, but in the case of Nick Jr., with their existing line-up.
Jeff Borkin is co-creator of Blaze & The Monster Machines, Nickelodeon’s original CG-animated preschool series debuting in 2014. Created with partner Ellen Martin, Blaze & The Monster Machines is the first preschool series that features a curriculum dedicated to all areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
Blaze is Axle City's greatest hero and its number one racer! Fast and fearless, he's unbeatable on the track thanks to his Blazing Speed! But he can think fast, too! Blaze knows everything about science, technology, engineering, and math! And when things get really tough, he can use his scientific know-how to transform himself into any machine. Blaze is the only truck in town with a human driver: his best pal, AJ. Together they share in each other's every success and failure.
Blaze's best pal and driver, AJ, is an 8-year-old thrill-seeker who loves to drive fast, fly high, and make a big splash. AJ is a technology expert who knows all about different machines and how they work. He has special Skywriting Gloves that he uses to sketch his designs in the air, as well as an amazing helmet visor that acts as a super tool for calculating distance, weights, and speeds. With AJ behind the wheel, Blaze is able to meet every challenge head on with scientific thinking.
Gabby's a 9-year-old mechanic with serious monster truck know-how. She runs Blaze and his monster pals' favorite hangouts: Axle City's garage and truck wash. With her trusty tools, Gabby is caretaker to all of the top racing trucks in town. She will tighten your fuel line, boost your suspension, and fix your gear ratio--all before lunch.
Blaze's biggest rival, Crusher, is an egomaniacal tractor-trailer that will do anything to beat the other racers to the finish line. Cheating is Crusher's specialty. So when it comes to winning, no trick is too underhanded for Crusher. He's constantly building contraptions to stop Blaze and his pals. And despite being the biggest truck around, Crusher is nothing but a big baby. He whines about being the best at everything, and can't stand when another truck's got something he doesn't have.
The network touts the show as the first preschool program on TV to comprehensively cover all areas of STEM in every episode as it follows the amazing monster truck Blaze and his eight-year-old driver AJ.
Together, Blaze and AJ have adventures that explore the physics of how things move, tackle problems through scientific inquiry and mathematics, and discover the parts needed to make everyday technologies work. Each episode is chock-a-block with monster trucks, physical humor and upbeat, original songs highlighting STEM concepts. The series is created by Jeff Borkin (Team Umizoomi head writer) and Ellen Martin (Bubble Guppies supervising producer)
The series premiere “Blaze of Glory” sees Blaze and AJ introduced to the world of racing monster machines in the town of Axle City. When Crusher, a troublemaker trcuk, uses his dirty tricks to try to win the championship, Blaze does everything he can to help his friends and beat him to the finish line. The episode will introduce preschoolers to STEM concepts including buoyancy and trajectory.

The Loud House - Nick UK 2016
"The Loud House" is the first series to be greenlit out of its 2013 Animated Shorts Program! Inspired by first-time creator Chris Savino's ("Rocko's Modern Life", "The Powerpuff Girls") chaotic life growing up in a huge household, the series will follow 11-year-old Lincoln as he gives an inside look at what it takes to survive in the bedlam of a large family, especially as the only boy with 10 sisters.
Team Umizoomi is an animated live-action series on Nick Jr. It's located in the center of a wonderfully urban environment, where the streets are paved with origami, the sidewalks are swirled with color, and even the manhole covers have whimsical patterns embedded within. Team Umizoomi is made up of Milli, Geo, and Bot, who solve everyday problems with their Mighty Math Powers in order to keep Umi City running smoothly.
Your preschooler will join these mini and mighty superheroes as their "Umifriend" to solve any and every problem. By demonstrating how math is everywhere and how it's integral to our daily lives, Team Umizoomi engages preschoolers, enhances their interest in, excitement for, and enjoyment of math.
Dora is a true heroine--an Indiana Jones for the preschool set. She is a born explorer, always eager for the next adventure. Though she's only seven, she serves as something of a big sister to her best friend, Boots, and to the viewer as well. With her pride in being bilingual, her respect for her elders, her growing understanding of her culture and heritage, and her love for storytelling and music, Dora embodies the Latina spirit.
Boots is a 5 year old furry monkey and Dora's best friend. He's like a worshipful younger brother. Sweet and loving, he likes to hold Dora's hand. Unlike Dora, Boots sometimes makes wrong choices and gets discouraged. When he is feeling down, he always bounces back quickly with one of his flips. No one can make Dora laugh the way Boots can. He's the best friend you always wanted.
